Roxborough (19128) is in the city of Philadelphia, PA. Located in the Northwest section of Philadelphia, Roxborough is bordered by the Schuykill River and the Wissahickon Creek located in Fairmount park. It's surrounding neighborhoods include: Manayunk and East Falls. Roxborough is in Philadelphia County, yet it feels rather separated from the rest of the city because of Wissahickon Creek. Roxborough provides urban residents with a suburban feel offering front lawns, garages and shopping centers. Roxborough is a strong, diverse neighborhood with many quality assets. The population of Roxborough is made up primarily of Whites. The median age of the residents of Roxborough is 34.2. It is considered to be one of the safest neighborhoods in the City of Philadelphia; it has a very responsive police district and active civic association. Although it is geographically seperated from most of Philadelphia, it is extremely well connected to the rest of the city via public transportation. Located only nine miles from center city, residents of Roxborough have many options to get around. There are several bus routes (SEPTA Bus Route 32, 35, 61, 62) that run directly into center city as well as other parts of the city. In addition to bus routes, SEPTA's R6 stops in two locations throughout Roxborough. There are also two main parks in Roxborough. Farimont Park which stretches from Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy all the way to center city. This park provides residents of Philadelphia with many outlets to enjoy recreational activities like cycling, running and walking. Gorgas Park which is conveniently located on Ridge Avenue, has recently undergone significant renovations. In addition to providing the neighbors of Roxborough with a well manicured community park, there are often markets, bazaars, and evening concerts in the nicer weather. Roxborough has many places of worship of all different denominations. The neighborhood has a variety of different schools; public, which is run by Philadelphia School District, as well as private. There is school of agriculture as well as a school for teenagers who have expereinced problems with addiction. There is also a community hospital located within the zip code (19128), as well as a psychiatric hospital and skilled nursing facilities. Ridge Avenue has many shops and eateries for the residents of this community. Roxborough has gone through many transitions to upgrade the neighborhood to make it the place it is today.
